Krugman Opinion Piece

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

While this is obviously an opinion piece and cannot be taken as strict fact, this piece highlights how sovereign debt is vastly different from household or personal debt, the uses of debt for both highly developed and developing states, and the political battles that all too often emerge around debt. A valuable viewpoint to have!

Agricultural Subsidies Overview

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

An absolutely amazing section from the Economist on agricultural subsidies and their effects on employment, development, trade, growth, and all sorts of other measures of economic success. Definitely a must read for all delegates!

PS As you may have noticed, I love the Economist and am going to use it fairly often as a resource. Definitely check out their website (http://www.economist.com) or follow them on twitter to stay up to date

2011 in Review

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

http://www.economist.com/node/21542191?fsrc=scn/tw/te/dc/chartingtheyear

This is an excellent series of charts from the Economist charting various global economic trends of 2011, including a dramatic rise in some European bond yields, a drying up of liquidity available to lenders, a rise in economic uncertainty, and negative trends in GDP and unemployment. These charts are great way to both understand the state of the global economy and to examine what tools economists use.
