Czech NGO mounts legal challenge over ‘free’ carbon dioxide emissions

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

Hi everyone! Can you believe that there are only 4 weeks left till the conference?!!! Hope everyone's SUPER excited, because I definitely am!

I just wanted to bring to everyone's attention an article regarding an environmental NGO's involvement in legal issues and environmental case law. A Czech environmental NGO called Environmental Law Service (EPS) is mounting a legal challenge to state-controlled power company ČEZ and other domestic electricity companies. These companies bid for a major chunk of carbon emissions allowances in return for “clean energy” investments. EPS argues that these investments are, in fact, not extra environmental investments, but were already planned by the electricity companies beforehand. EPS says the challenge could cost ČEZ billions of crowns if it is successful.
