- The United States is allowing record amounts of Haitians temporary legal status within the United States given the devastation caused by the earthquake

Though we expect this from the United States, this also means that the world is sympathetic to Haiti's situation, and is willing to help out in any way. If you are a country that is near to Haiti, pay close attention to how immigration from Haiti is discussed within your country. A great place to do this is on your country's foreign affairs website, or through news searches.

-Duvalier has returned to Haiti after a long exile

Its an extremely interesting policy decision to allow Duvalier back into Haiti, and its especially important for our topic. You all remember mentions of Duvalier from the background guide, and you know that Duvalier's role in Haiti's social and cultural history is marked by corruption and oppression. Therefore, we must all question what his return will do to the current social and cultural climate.
