2011 in Review

Conference:
NHSMUN 2012

This is an excellent series of charts from the Economist charting various global economic trends of 2011, including a dramatic rise in some European bond yields, a drying up of liquidity available to lenders, a rise in economic uncertainty, and negative trends in GDP and unemployment. These charts are great way to both understand the state of the global economy and to examine what tools economists use.

Topic A: On Education

Conference:
SUSMUN 2011

Delegates!

Today the blog post concerns our post topic, Economic Development in Post-Earthquake Haiti.

This is an article by Eric Hanushek of the International Monetary Fund. It focuses on the topic of education as it relates to development. The article discusses education in general but much of what it said can be extended to Haiti and will be useful to know for your country’s position as it concerns to assisting Haiti.

Topic B: Agriculture and Trade

Conference:
SUSMUN 2011

Delegates!

Each of the two topics has some more complex components to them. Today I want to focus on the issue on our topic of food aid. Within that, I have an article written by Jagdish Bhagwati, a member of the Council for Foreign Relations, that deals with, among other things, the topic of trade as it relates to the agriculture sectors of various nations.

Hello!

Conference:
SUSMUN 2011

Hello delegates! My name is John Parvin, and I will be your assistant director for ECOFIN. I am currently a freshman at Princeton University (GO TIGERS), moving from Columbia, South Carolina. I have absolutely no idea what I want to major in, and that is exactly what I will tell you if you ask. I have attended NHSMUN as a delegate all four years of my high school career; each year I was on ECOFIN. I have an intense and very passionate love for the Second Committee, and I hope you will have the same affection by the end of this year’s conference. I mean honestly, we are the best committee.

Greetings and Salutations

SUSMUN 2011

Welcome to SUSMUN 2011! My name is Steven Mark and I’m a senior at the University of Colorado. I’m an International Affairs major and I plan to go to law school once I finish this last year. I’m a native Floridian, but I’ve lived in Colorado for the large majority of my life. Outside of MUN and school related work, I spend most of my time looking at fashionable things that are too expensive for me to buy, playing Starcraft II and Team Fortress II, and being a music nerd á la those three guys in High Fidelity.

Hi ECOFIN Delegates!

Kenya experiencing growth despite internet saboteurs

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

In 2009 the first African undersea broadband cable was laid in the hopes of connecting East Africa to the rest of the world by providing high-speed internet service. Now with a total of three undersea cable connecting the continent, Kenya is experiencing obstacles in its goal to connect it's citizens to the world wide web. The most serious of these hurdles being sabotage of fibre-optic cables in various parts of the country. In these cases individuals cut through both the primary cable and back up cables. Fingers have been pointed amongst the competing internet service providers in the region, placing blame upon one another.
