Small Arms Trade Video

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

Delegates,

I hope you all love short videos on arms control as much as I do because today I've got a good one for you. This video was made in 2008 by Amnesty International, a very powerful NGO. The video is part of their "Control Arms Campaign" that is a proponent of a global arms trade treaty. Whether you agree with this or not, I hope the video paints a better picture of what impact the arms trade has globally. Also, NGOs are very important. They are a great source of funding and manpower, so it would be a good idea to research more about NGO involvement with both of our topics.

New Bill in Canada to Help Export Generic AIDS Medication

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

The issue of lack of access to generic drugs is important in many countries all over the world. Even Canada, a nation that does not really have a high HIV/AIDS rate, is recently focusing its legislative energy on creating new laws that will allow more exports of generic drugs to nations in need. This article has some interesting points that relate directly to the World Trade Organization and its role in determining international standards for exporting generic drugs to nations in need.

Clear links between Money Laundering and Illicit Drug Trafficking

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

Hello everyone,

Here is an interesting and short video which relates drug trafficking and money laundering. It explains the typical process of trafficking illicit drugs from Mexico into the United States through guarded borders. I would like to draw special attention to the role money laundering plays in the drug trade here. As described in this video, people who are involved in the drug trade are using the money they make in many different ways, which disrupts the usual flow of supply and demand economics.

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

Delegates,

For today's post, I would like for you to read an article that combines many topics we have been focusing on for Topic 1. It may seem that drug trafficking, small arms trade, money laundering, and terrorism do not come together easily, but here is an example of a blending of all four.

Conference:
NHSMUN Committee

Hello delegates,

I hope the previous videos I posted on topic 2 were helpful and stimulated lots of thinking and further research. Now, I am going to give you a great video for topic 1. Nils Gilman is a globalization expert that is writing a new book called "Deviant Globalization." In this video you can see him discuss his ideas on how illicit trade and globalization is instrumental to the development of many economies around the world.
