FAQ
I) How do I know if the National High School Model UN conference (NHSMUN) is the right conference for my school?
There are numerous Model UN conferences across the United States and around the world. They vary in size, location, experience, cost, as well as multiple other factors. We would absolutely love for you to attend our conference, but at the same time, we encourage you to search the internet and talk to students and faculty advisors who have attended the various conferences you may be interested in to determine which events best suit your school.
II) When is NHSMUN 2013?
The dates for the NHSMUN 2013 conference are March 6-9, 2013.
III) Where does NHSMUN take place?
Debate takes place in both the Hilton New York and the United Nations International Headquarters. While the majority of debate takes place at the Hilton New York, opening and closing ceremonies, as well as a plenary session prior to closing ceremonies, are conducted at the United Nations International Headquarters.
IV) When can I register for NHSMUN 2013?
Registration applications for NHSMUN 2013 will be accepted from October 1, 2012 through October 15, 2012. We are expecting to fill the conference to full capacity through the official registration process. If you plan to register, please do so early as we always have a waiting list. Note: Schools who register within the first 24 hours of the registration's opening are treated similarly.
V) What do I receive upon registering for NHSMUN 2013?
After successful registration, delegates receive access to individualized background guides for their committees. These guides provide extensive research on both topics the committees will be discussing, as well as discussion questions to guide the student in position paper writing, a letter from the committee director introducing him/herself, information about the NHSMUN conference itself, and a set of the rules of procedure. Faculty advisors also receive a Faculty Preparation Guide suggesting how to help students prepare for the conference, tips for fundraising, an outline of the faculty role at the NHSMUN conference, as well as other useful information. Students receive a Delegate Preparation Guide with timelines and preparation assistance as well.
VI) Does NHSMUN offer Financial Aid?
Unfortunately, NHSMUN is not currently able to offer financial aid or scholarships.
VII) Is there a limit to the number of students my school may bring?
There is no limitation to the number of students any one school may bring. However, when registering for the conference, faculty advisors should select delegations from the country matrix that offer enough committees to suit the needs of their schools. Faculty advisors are permitted to request more than one country. While schools might request seats for large delegations, it is important to note that no spots are guaranteed until the registration process is complete. Based on registration trends, NHSMUN may only be able to accommodate a fraction of a school's requested delegation size. We encourage you to request enough seats to accommodate your entire delegation. The total number of allotted slots will be determined after registration has concluded.
Please contact Secretary-General Hannah Olliff (sg.nhsmun@imuna.org) with any questions.
