Every year at NHMSUN we donate portions of our proceeds from shirt or other paraphernalia sales and collect donations for a deserving non-profit. This year we have decided on the theme of environmental sustainability. In that light, we have chosen the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) for our service learning project. Similar to the UN the organization combines multifaceted approaches to find solutions for pressing environmental problems. On their website they ask the question “Can scientists, economists, and lawyers team up to solve environmental problems?” This approach to environmental sustainability will emulate delegates’ research of globalization and cooperation. EDF’s strategic plan focuses on climate, oceans, ecosystems, and health and solutions with economic incentives to protect the environment.
