About RHSMUN
What is RHSMUN?
The motto of the International Model United Nations Association (IMUNA), our parent organization, is "Education through Simulation." At RHSMUN we believe in doing all we can to provide a world-class Model United Nations experience that is academically substantial and educationally rewarding.
Our all-volunteer staff is drawn from schools around the country who work year round training, writing topic guides, and attending MUN events to ensure that the conference in December is a top quality experience. Our entire Senior Staff is drawn from veteran MUN participants and both our directors and assistant directors are trained extensively in rules of parliamentary procedure, the topic areas for the committees, and in working with delegates of all levels. The effort of our hardworking staff is well evidenced in the strong preparatory materials we provide delegates, like the committee topic booklets which are independently written and researched by each committee’s staff, as well as the positive learning environment experienced in any of our committees.
This year, we are excited to offer a unique substantive program for delegates of varying skill levels and interests. Our conference boasts a variety of committees for delegates of every skill level as well as preferences in topic type and committee size. For beginning delegates, our larger and more traditional committees like the General Assembly give new delegates a learning atmosphere facilitated by the committee director to learn the basics of MUN by immersion. Delegates will be exposed to pre-conference workshops if they choose to partake, and directors are trained to provide feedback on parliamentary procedure, diplomatic negotiations, and resolution writing during committee.
RHSMUN 2012 will be held in San Francisco, CA at the Parc 55 Wyndam Hotel in Union Square. Accommodations are provided for delegates and staff in the same hotel as the conference is held. Our staff enforces an appropriate curfew, monitoring the halls of the hotel at all hours. The Parc 55 is located in a lively, culturally rich epicenter of the city, with a variety of restaurants and tourist activities within a short walking distance.
Ultimately our conference provides a challenging, safe, and fun educational environment for all students. Our 2012 Secretary-General, Steven Sorensen (sg.rhsmun@imuna.org) is happy to answer any questions regarding conference programming, and our 2012 Director-General, Jillian Petrie (dg.rhsmun@imuna.org) is happy to answer any substantive programming questions.
See you in December!
Steven Sorensen and Jillian Petrie
