Social, Cultural and Humanitarian, 2011
As members of General Assembly (GA) Mains committee, delegates in the Third Committee are presented with the task of addressing social, humanitarian and cultural issues worldwide. The humanitarian mission of the United Nations is often lost in the struggle to find solutions to world conflicts, international security, and establishing stability. As a result of the violence and turmoil, citizens of the world are often left without adequate infrastructure, social organization, and sometimes without basic human rights. These problems hinder international progress in development and addressing poverty worldwide. At RHSMUN we have chosen this committee to serve as a learning forum for delegates to understand the importance of these issues and how to find viable solutions through communication and cooperation. Encompassing diversity, the Third Committee has representatives from member states all over the world, and not just the Big Five from the Security Council. This unique experience will give delegates a wide range of ideas and perspectives, while strengthening their ability to find viable solutions through communication and cooperation.
