The Federal Republic of Germany, more commonly known as Germany, has been a member of the United Nations since 1990; however, both East and West Germany were admitted separately to the United Nations on the 18th of September in 1973. Germany’s political system is a Federal Parliamentary Republic uniting the sixteen german states under the leadership of the President and Federal Chancellor. Germany is an influential member of the United Nations due to its global presence and strong growing economy, and is a member of the G4, G8 and G20 groups along with being a leading member of the European Union.
